I'm debating on which bumper for the back of my 64. The front bumper is chrome so I will go with chrome. Here's the question: while searching online, I found a valance but it's for something else so is there a valance available for our trucks? I imagine it would normally be for those who don't want to have a bumper. I would notch it for the bumper brackets if need be.
Thanks ibuzzard. it's a relief to know more will be hidden than I expected by just the bumper. I was also considering the custom brackets that lift the bumper a little closer. Guess I am putting the cart before the horse.
That truck looks beautiful!
You’re looking for what’s called a “Roll Pan”, common for decades as an aftermarket item for many trucks (mostly Chevy of course).
In past couple of years now available from several sources for our ‘64-‘66 stylesides. A few examples (try at your own risk - I have no idea what the quality is!!):
Grampa...yes, the bumper is likely to hide nearly all of any valance that you might add. Regarding the repro bumper brackets, be prepared to cut them in any case. I found that they fit terribly and I had to cut and modify both sides to get the bumper aligned. As it is, shown here, there is very little space near the ends of the bumper to move it any closer to the body.
What resonateur said. I've read a bunch of threads about the re-pop brackets not fitting correctly. I looked at salvage yards and this place in Saint Augustine has a 72 bumper but they don't say if it is the chrome one or a step bumper. Should be able to get bumper an brackets for less than re-pop brackets cost. Might be worth a call.

Running Bumperless, or with only a Roll Pan, will end badly if you happen to get "tapped" from behind, as the bed will end up damaged. Even with a bumper, there are no guarantees, all depends on how hard you get hit. But a bumper will minimize the damage to the bed.......

Very good point. My thinking (until seeing these pictures) was to get a valance and bumper. I didn't know that the bumper would hide so much. These are some great looking trucks!
I should add that I am also planning to put a hitch on the back. Funny thing is it came with a hitch on the front.
The trick will be shipping them from OR to FL without spending more than the Re-pops cost.........better off to keep an eye on CL and FB Marketplace, and other classified publications. At least when it's local, you can see exactly what you're getting, and no shipping to boot!!

Resonateur,
NICE SLICK, my Friend!
I would like a slider rear glass like yours, but it seems like the top of the slider window frame would be in the line of sight of the rearview mirror.....have you any issues with that?
I like the later model backup lights too.
