Need help from a Ford SD electronics whiz. I love the Ford cam on the back of my fifth wheel trailer. Since BLIS doesn't work with a 5er, you have to change lanes the old fashioned way,
1. Mirror check
2. Guesstimate the clearance for your trailer which you can't really see.
3. Signal
4. Start to change lanes.
5. Jump back in your lane because some moron got tired of waiting for you to do 1-4 and is now passing in the lane you wanted.
6. Repeat.
7. Crash into a barrier because you ran out of lane during this process.
Or, you can hit the camera button.
Now apparently, Ford considers this extremely dangerous because a couple stupid warnings come up wnd they try to put the button almost out of reach. I consider it a highly effective safety and better than BLIS and will continue to use it despite the idiotic warnings.
Yes, I understand I could be passing 2 similar vehicles and run the risk of seeing I'm passed one, crash into the other. But I think a quick mirror check will cover that possibility.
So my first thought is to rearrange the buttons above the screen to put the cam button farther left but im not sure that would be worth the effort. So, I decided to add a second cam button somewhere could such as the left armrest by the mirror controls or like that.
Of course, on the steering wheel would be the most convenient but that would be a real PITA to do. Unless....... Unless there was already some button on the wheel that could be repurposed to be the cam button.
So I look at the wheel and there is the nearly useless Cruise Control On/Off button. That button gets pushed at the beginning of most of my drives and is never pushed again. If CC could be set to always be on, that button could be the cam button. And being labeled on/off would be perfect too because it doesn't say what is being turned on or off.
So, I'm hoping there is someone that can figure out how to make this happen? Much appreciation would be garnered.
After pushing the button once, does that view not stay there?
Yes, but takes the whole screen. Once I've changed lanes or whatever I need to do, I then switch back to AA for navigation. Sometimes the cam button gets used a lot.
Based on the idea seen on ham radio equipment of a button (or several) that can be programed by the user to do a certain function...
The "any" button, after the "Press any key" message on computers, the "any" button is on the steering wheel and can be programmed from the vehicle setting menu to do any of a number of things chosen from a list in the menu. Like bring up your camera, for instance.
I use my RVs rear camera to see when it is clear to pull back in a lane after passing. It use to be common courtesy when passing trucks or other RVs that they would flash their lights but common courtesy on the roads these days is a joke.
I consider my RVs rear view camera/monitor to by my truck's rear view "mirror" when towing. The monitor for the RV's rear view camera is small enough (3" or 4" I guess) that I put a large rubber band around it and the trucks rear view mirror - so it is in the natural place I would normally look for my rear view. FWIW - I put my TPMS monitor there too. So now my dash is not as cluttered with camera monitors, TPMS monitors, and I don't have to looking for Ford's illogically place buttons.
