My 2017 super duty diesel started revving while idling today even after warmed up. It acts like is does when extremely cold but it's in the 70s today. Any clues?
Have you brought it into the dealership lately... there was an update that they were doing at one time that was causing the truck to idle high when sitting... there was a thread (or 2) on it some time back.
Let me guess, it goes up to about 1k RPM after it's been idling for a few minutes, if you tap the accelerator or brake it stops but will start again if left idling......in 88k miles you definitely have experienced a regen, you just weren't aware of it. As Chad mentioned, there was a PCM reprogram for emissions purposes that included your year. There have been other owners who said they never experienced this elevated idle before the reprogram. That may be true, what you experienced is now normal, and intentionally programed into the PCM.
I've posted this screen shot in other threads, this is likely what you noticed, and not a full on regen.
Ever since the last recall flash my 2017 has odd idle-up cycles. No, it's not in regen when it does it. Sometimes it goes straight to high idle when I remote start it when it's below freezing too. Zero idle, as soon as it fires it goes straight to 1000+ rpm. Not a fan.
my 2019 stated doing this 10K miles ago after I took the truck in for a tailgate recall and they decided to also reflash my PCM. there is a another PCM reflash on the list which may or may not fix this bug from the first reflash. BTW, I wasnt advised beforehand about the reflash...they just did it....thinking about a odbc port lock so they wont be able to reflash with out my consent.
I believe what you're experiencing is not a regen cycle but programming that is identifying outside temps, engine operating temps and idle times and as a result may increase the RPM to prevent wet stacking. Step on the brake or accelerator and it resets the process only to begin the anaysis all over if left to idle.
