R&R Time
However the PMS is getting deep. After reading HvyHaulr 550 build thread in its entirety last night it made me really hopeful that with a couple green backs I can make this truck just as good as the new ones. After driving from Green Bay Wisconsin to Gatlinburg Tenn. With a 32' enclosed gooseneck in my dads 2020 CCSB F-250 with the 6.7 and King ranch ultimate package I told myself I would start saving for a new truck. Much like HvyHaulr it only gets used once a week to town and on weekends hauling the tractor/boat. That being said the new truck vibe is tamed for now.
As much as I shouldn't spend the extra money I am deeply considering injectors (200/30) and HPOP. Biggest fear is the trans. There again, if it came up I would probably drive to BTS with my truck and offer him a complete 2wd trans with TC that was taken out of a low milage crash.
Going to send an email to Rosewood about injectors and see what he recommends. Hoping he would be interested in a set from a 97 that I have laying around from a poor oil cooler job from a different mechanic.
Edit: CNC Fab will purchase cores from you. So if I have an extra, might as well buy it right!?
Rumor has it that cnc not only buys core hpops and injectors, but also give more value if used for store credit, and they also build pretty decent injectors
Fast forward to the middle of November of '23, I decided out of the blue I was going to pull the motor. So that has been done and only broke 2 things, which I didn't think was bad for being in the rust belt. Trans cooler coupling broke and one of the bolts that hold the core support. Just when I think I am going to make progress, I get shipped out of the country for work. Come home to find out my wife is pregnant with our first! Little baby girl Bernadine Rose. Man, what a life change that is. So blessed.
.
I installed an outdoor boiler for my shop and house last fall. How nice it is not to use $7k of oil a winter now.
Gas co is expanding a wellpad on the property, so I just got a LOT of free firewood!
I forget to share things here, but here is my setup.
First fire up of the central boiler 6048. Poor pear tree broke due to not harvesting enough.
Shop heat setup. Will roast me out in my 32x38x8 garage. Dont mind the panel. I decided to rewire the entire building and put everything in conduit.
This is my setup for our domestic water. This heats the water that supply's our water heater. We turn the breaker off on the water heat as soon as the burner fires up. Man is it nice having endless and instant hot water.
I was fortunate enough to book the tours of each. Got to go into the Dam and power plant. As well as in the shop of Shelby America.
Hoover Dam and Shelby America
Nevada side power plant tour. Notice the two 300 ton cranes.
This is the rotor from Nevad 3. This unit weighs 600 tons. Notice the Polaris ranger next to it for size.
Overall view from the Tillman Bridge
Intake towers viewed from the Arizona side.
This is from the Dam tour, this is about halfway up the dam out one of the vents.
Someday I will have a shelby, whether it is old or new.
pulling 225k btu off a too small 150k btu boiler (going bigger this year)
shop is 100k btu of that, 30x65 and poor insulation/single pane windows.
hopefully I will be down to the 10-12 cord a year range with a larger capacity boiler that wont need to be run full tilt non stop.
shop heat
Hooked into the boiler system in the house
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
This is nice for the fact I can shut the valves from the boiler system running through the exchanger and it will automatically go back to running just like it did before I installed the exchanger/outdoor boiler. This is great for if I go away, the wife doesnt have to worry about feeding the stove and can focus on chasing the 3 kiddos around the house instead lol.
I also have it set so if the boiler core goes below 140 degrees(like if I forget to add wood) the oil automaticaly takes over(be careful as this will heat backwards to the outdoor boiler without manually closing the valves to the exchanger, and heating the outdoor boiler from the indoor oil one gets expensive fast, but is a good safety measure for if the fire unexpectedly goes out in cold weather, the outdoor boiler wont freeze).
The small loop above the boiler that goes to the circulating pump(actually dont need the pump, though I might) is for warm weather, it just gravity circulates some fluid through the exchanger to keep the boiler core temp up and avoid the oil from kicking in once or twice a day.(you can believe how much I hate hearing the oil burner going anymore!)
The house has 6 zones, so this seemed the easiest way to keep things intact. (Basement radient floor, Laundry radient floor, Attached garage radient floor, 1st floor h20 baseboard, 2nd floor h2o bseboard, hot water boiler mate)
Next year after I go bigger outdoor boiler I plan to add a seasonal loop out to the above ground pool, and run a pool exchanger to help heat that, that will get shut off and blown out with air every winter, with the exchanger being brought inside since the pool exchangers are expensive.

Love the pool idea!
Love the pool idea!
I have about the same cost into my setup, a bit less on the boiler, but 230' of line from the house to the boiler was not cheap!
I really enjoyed having my shop not being filled with fumes from a diesel torpedo heater on a thermostat!
Thinking I may rent this firewood processor again this year..
I called Ford today and my discount doesn't come close to Riffraff. I also looked at Fordpartsgiant.com and they were cheaper but have heard nothing but bad things about them. So Ill spend an extra $100 and know I wont have issues.
Reading all the threads on here, there are items that I want to do at some point but probably wont order at this time. Those are as follows
Sound deadening, need to do more research on this
Glow plugs, Mine haven't shown any issues starting in the Wisconsin weather
HPOP, after talking with Jim (Rosweood), and Eswift. my stock 152k mile pump should be fine for what I am doing
Tie rod,Balljoints, Wheel Bearings, Hubs. Would love to rebuild my front axle but really need to look and see if I can find a set from 05+ and gain the turning radius, ride quality. But if I can't find something realitively soon then I will rebuild my stocker.
Trans Filter, My fluid is good and not burnt. I plan to avoid sticking anything into this trans as I am sure the new setup will roast it. Then I plan to take my trans and a second complete 2wd 4r100 with triple disc converter down to BTS and see if we can work something out. If anyone knows of a good Kit, I am capable of building one. But I want all the major fixes that BTS does. I am sure he has some minor trade secret stuff going on as well.
Oil pan, after talking with Skiskyjason I am still on the fence about the spectra, aftermarket pan. I need to call the local bedliner Line-x or bullet liner and see how much they charge. Just 5 weeks ago my Aunt and Uncle closed their two line-x franchise locations otherwise that would have been no problem. That would drop $245 with shipping over the Morosso.
Current scope.
Edit: Updated to most recent pricing and parts

I would consider upgraded HPO lines. Just skip the 3rd line ‘HPx’ mod. I’ve installed many sets of CNC Fab JIC lines.
on edit: after you watch Brian build your transmission, you’ll see what is different. As far as a DIY build goes, my transmission shop can’t get everything needed to build a 4R100 right now and is installing Jasper built transmissions at this point. Although I haven’t talked to him for a few months so that may have changed.
