Just read about a class action lawsuit for Ford's 10R80 automatic transmission. You know, the one found in the Ford F-150 and other Ford and GM products?
And coincidentally, I experienced that strange "won't move in reverse until you goose the throttle and it lunges" phenomenon again this a.m. It used to only happen when it was very cold and the truck sat outside all night. Very strange. And shifting into 6th gear is rather rough too oftentimes. Not always. But more times than it should under simple, even, gradual acceleration.
Anybody else have any gripes with their trannies? (You know what I mean).
My truck's under warranty, but I dread taking it in because the dealer will undoubtedly say "can't reproduce the symptom. Nothing wrong." And I've wasted days without a loaner. Or a rental car on my nickel. : (
2020 expedition (3.5L).....light kick downs, in preparation of passing another vehicle, can randomly throw the trans into a false neutral....if you coast for a few seconds (more than 20 sec) it will eventually go back into gear and you can keep going on your merry way.

This has nothing to do with the shifting but mine will set the E-brake itself when I park on an incline and when you go back in gear it takes a little throttle to release. Or you can do it by hand. could this be your reverse lunge?

I have an early 17 with the 10 speed and no issues other than occasionally under light load (like coasting) it will shift hard from 1-2.
Also a 2020 SD with 10 speed. No complaints.
I will take the 10 speeds over anything else out there..

This was the result of a recall that I just addressed on my 2020 Explorer, the brake sets itself but I haven't experienced in how it feels......then again, I don't drive it much.

I experienced this this morning and, after reading your response a couple of days ago, I released the e-brake and sure enough, it was set. Thanks for the info.
don't know if it's supposed to but mine does it about every time I park on much of an incline. This thing does so many dumb a** things that I figured it was supposed to act that way!

I suspect it is intended as a safety feature but it becomes a more of a hazard when they don't tell customers about it and those customers then hit the gas hard to free the truck up.
I suspect it's so the trans will come out of park on an incline. I'm sure most have experienced having to haul on shift lever to get out of park on a hill, and bang you're on the move. I don't know what year this started but there is no physical connection between the shifter and trans on mine. No way some little solenoid in trans is going to pull it out of park on a hill, so we set the ebrake to avoid "truck won't come out of park complaints". In case ya can't tell I not a fan of the vicious circle of tech.
In the Owner Manual page 234, second column ,note two.
The EMG Brakes may automatically set on when the shifter is put into Park.
Refer to page 217.
On 217 I don't see any reference to this, but it must be happening.
Good luck.
We have a 2018 Expedition that can't find a gear on down ****s. Falls into neutral and will grind to find a gear. As someone else said, it will slide back into gear once you get out of the gas but can be a bit nerve racking if you are falling out into the passing lane and lose a gear. Ours also hunts for gears all the time going down the road or will slide into the taller gears and refuse to downshift. At that point it will shutter trying to get into the proper rpm range for that gear. Out of warranty and hate it.

E brake seems to engage when it senses that the wheels are turning as you throw it into park. Makes sense I guess, wouldn't annoy me so much if the button to disengage it was more responsive. Seems like I always have to hit it twice and it's slow.
