fuel fill inlet error

I was hoping I can pick your brain, I have a 2010 Ford F150 Lariat with a 5.4 V8 and about a month ago I got a warning on the screen saying check fuel fill inlet. so I searched and it is a common error for a loose or missing gas cap, but my truck has the capless tank. I tried cleaning the around the fuel door and where the gas door is with seafoam and pressure air and that did not work. Next I put a obd2 reader on it and go the error code and then erased the code and after 2 to 3 weeks it came back on. There is no performance issues with the truck, it's starts right up when you step on the gas it goes and does not spit or sputter. any idea what I should check out?
thanks

Follow the directions in your owner's manual for "cleaning" the capless fuel filler.

Since you didn't post the actual fault codes, can't comment on those.

loose or missing gas cap.

I fought the same thing for months. I cleaned and scrubbed the inlet multiple times with all sorts of cleaners, etc. Nothing worked. Then....I replaced the Purge Valve. Haven't had a code since.

The P0457 can be caused by a faulty seal in the capless filler, a loose gas cap (if equipped), a purge valve that doesn't open or close properly, a restricted vacuum line from the purge valve, a vent valve that doesn't close, or some other leak in the evap system. Because the monitor for this DTC is only supposed to run after a refueling event, it's usually assumes (but not always the case) to be related to a failure of the fuel inlet to seal properly.

Did you have any other performance issues? My truck runs great without any issues.

This is strictly an emissions issue. Should not cause any driveability or operational issues.

If you have mandatory emissions testing, it will need to be either fixed or you'll need to figure out a way to make it pass when it's due. If you have no emissions testing, feel free to do whatever you want.

Thank for replying, I live in Montana and there is no emission testing here. I just don't like the error message lol.

Yes. All I did was change the purge valve. The code went away and has never come back.

Yes, that's the part.
Just a quick hint. I found it easiest to replace the purge valve if I laid on top of the engine facing the windshield and reached one arm around each side of the engine. You can't see what you're doing but it's very easy to feel the connections. Hope this helps.
