I don't know when, but the 6.0 has been set up for 350 hp/600 lbs.-ft.

It was all over last Spring.

From the factory, the 6.0 is really putting out 570-575 lbs.-ft., so it is a little under-rated at 560.

The D'Max is going to get a boost after the 1st of the year, so Ford has to stay competitive. Ford won't do anything until it has to, so it may be '05 or even '06. It depends on what GM and DCX do.

Thansk, you say a bit under rated, do we know the real numbers ofr HP/TQ. Why would they under rate it?

The 570 number came from Joe K., who works at Indy, and what he saw regularly on the Indy test dyno.

They under-rate to give them some room to "upgrade" in the future.

DCX came out with a 555 CTD, so Ford only had to rate at 560 to be #1. Why sign up for more when you don't have to?

Now DCX will come out with 565 and Ford will quickly go to 570, knowing that they can easily and without a lot of testing.

i would love to have the extra power and torque, but then again, i'm satisfied with what they offer now. can't wait to experience it first hand next week hopefully.

maybe the trucks will be able to be boosted up to the new numbers with a flash, or another way that is not so hard.

More info.

Here are the specs on the 6.0 that Ford showed in the F-350 Tonka:

Under the hood is Ford's preview of the next generation Power Stroke diesel. Called the Super-600, this 6.0-liter V8 is mated to a five-speed PowerTorq automatic transmission that puts out 350 horsepower and 600 ft-lbs. of torque. The engine has four valves per cylinder and a single block mounted OHV camshaft. The Super-600 also shows off Electronic Variable Response Turbocharging (EVRT), that helps provide boost over a wide range of driving and altitude conditions, Hydraulic Rail Fuel Injection at pressures up to 24,000 psi, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), that brings cooler exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber to lower the temperature and improve emissions, and easy access to maintenance items such as the oil filter - that pops out like a printer cartridge.

This new one looks to be the same as the current except for oil cartridge pop out, and still 350/600. So in reality we all have a bit more than advertised.............correct?

I don't test them, so I don't know.

I don't know if Ford can bump the HP with software alone or if some hardware is needed.

welp, considering the aftermarket can, rest assured, FORD can

also, i was unaware the 6.0 psd has fuel pressures that damn high, if so, why would they use glow plugs?

The current 6.0 does not use a common rail injection system, but the rumors are that it will go to one in 2007.

Also rumored is that the 6.0 becomes a 6.4 in 2007.

Here is some more '05 and beyond info for you. This came from a Ford representative at the traveling Ford PSD show:

I found out that starting in 05 SD's will only be available in CA with the Torqueshift due to emissions. Ford is also aware that the lower radiator hose can/will rub on the steering box and they recommended tying it off with wire ties in order to keep it away from the steering box until a change can be made.

When I mentioned that I was not happy about "feel like a step child" the SD's not coming with a home link system, directional map lights of some sort in the overhead console, painted mirrors and door handles, rear cup holders in the center console, a decent keypad on the drivers door and a few other things I was told all these items will be addressed with the next body style change in 06 or 07. They also said Ford is working on a redesign of the 04 folding rear seat so owners will have some storage under the seat.
