I have been lurking here for years absorbing knowledge and getting help. I have done most of the maintenance suggested here as we take long trips with the family camping. I replaced all the glow plugs (Beru Germany 27A on the first line, the the second line reads, 0 100 226 138 11V) along with new factory super duty harnesses about 20k ago. I pulled it out of hibernation to shake things down for this season and needed to charge the batteries. It did not want to start (oil temp 38) so I plugged it in, I came out later (oil temp 98) and it started up, but was blowing unburned diesel. This is not abnormal after not wanting to start, so I increase RPM's and hear a knocking sound. I was thinking an injector, or fuel knock, but it got quiet after a few seconds. I was walking around to the front to have a listen and I could hear some puffing in the air cleaner. NOT good! Check the exhaust and it is blowing white rings...pulled the oil cap and it was chuffing like a train! I found the failed GP in #7. I used a camera in the cylinder and the piston is damaged. Any ideas as to why this GP failed?
They were not...they were from a reputable dealer that only sells OEM. Just trying to see what could have caused this failure, so it is not repeated in the future.
Hmmmm... the glow plugs I have are threaded and crimped. I am not asking you to take one apart, but have you taken apart a factory Beru? I am just trying to figure out how to know in the future. These came from a reputable place in factory packing and have the part numbers laser engraved in the body. I have seen other that were just printed on. Thanks!

sorry about this whole ordeal. This sounds like a nightmare that none of us want to experience
I just twisted the tops right off (as in BROKE) of two BERU glow plugs - one Germany, one Ireland. There is NO WAY to unscrew the tops on real BERU plugs given the crimp style that yours DON'T have.
Mine don't have the round fake crimp. They have a crimp like the other that you show, but it is hard to see in my picture, I took another one that was not destroyed apart and I could unscrew the body, but the top would not unscrew. The one that went bad the top would unscrew though.
Higher quality pictures of the tops and the printing would be beneficial at this point. It sure looks to me like there is no deep crimp around the circumference.
Ahhh...I see. Yours are not threaded at all!!! I guess if I fix it I will sacrifice one just to be sure it is not a fake! After years of searching out factory parts and even being burned by Ford more than once my wife is DONE.
