itsrikka's MY02 EX Build Thread
- [04/21/2023] Purchase Date
- [04/25/2023] It begins!
My wife and I purchased our MY02 Limited for $2,250 from a private party. It has been affectionately named "Remy". Why? Because when we went to view it, there was a field mouse sitting on the inside of the left rear wheel and Ratatouille is my wife's favorite movie.
What made us purchase this one? Believe it or not, this was nicer than any other Ex that we looked at within our price range. Others had worse frame rust, busted interior bits, or blown engines/transmissions. This one runs and drives, is four-wheel drive, and has a decent interior (although very dirty and smelly). The worst part about the truck? Right rear leaf spring is totally snapped. No biggie, we wanted to go with B code springs anyway.
Springs have been ordered and will be here this week. We have the necessary tools to properly clean the interior, just need to find the time.
What has been done so far:
- Started cleaning interior, including steaming the leather seats.
- Swapped the arm rest covers
- Fixed 7-blade trailer wiring
- Zip-tied the fuel filler neck in place
- Fixed pull-out cup holders
- Polished gauge cluster
- FOUND THE DOOR CODE!
What is still to be done:
- Replace/upgrade rear springs to factory B codes
- Fix wiring for front left turn signal
- Order a rear-view mirror
- Replace hood and hatch struts
- Figure out why cruise control isn't working
- Do the Guzzler lube fix on the locking hubs
- Find intermediate parking brake cables
This is the list to get the X back to "daily-driver" status. We have much more planned, but this is the first step in our journey and I'm excited for what's to come!

the mehanic replaced the Drum Brake Shoes, and showed me the old drum brake shoes, only 2mm of material left on them!!!!
so, pull the rear wheels and inspect the Brake Shoes for the E-brake first
