I have a stock 1990 F-250 7.5 4x4 that has factory air but it hasn’t worked in 15-20 years. It’s time to make it work again. What parts do I need to swap out to use the R-134A or R-134yf? I know the compressor turns, but it’s 33 years old. Should I just swap out every part of the AC?
Thanks!
If money is not a problem, yes, change it all out to the stuff from a 94-96 truck which were R134a from the factory. Generally speaking, the more you spend on such a conversion, the longer it lasts.
I might do that, it may spend more time with me than originally planned. Is there a good schematic somewhere that lists all of the parts? I know the usual stuff but this 90 is newer than most stuff I’ve worked on (usually pre-64)
Good start, scroll down towards bottom. And yes, just buy all new stuff. 1990 was 33 years ago, anything on there is probably crap.
Main advantage of 94+ stuff is the condenser. Easy enough to retro if you cannot acquire a small tube or parallel flow unit drop in. One line is diff outlet wise. I outlined it in my 4.9 resurrection thread with the truck named Frijole. I did a 94 condenser in it as 92 PF was not in stock for the longest time and I have an AC hose crimping tool.
Evap is slightly different dimensionally, not enough to write home about.
