o2 sensor
i just read in an old forum that there are two 02 sensors before the cat converter and two after, on a 4.0L is this true for all rangers? mines an 87' 2.9L v6 with 2wd. i could only find one before the cat converter, which i have replaced.
any help would be appreciated

Different years and different motors have different 02 Sensor configurations.
The early systems, like yours, often times only came with a single 02 sensor, before the cat.
As time and technology progressed, vehicles started getting two 02 Sensors, one on each bank, before the cat.
Most newer Fords like my '98 Ranger have four 02 sensors altogether, one on each bank before the cat, and another on each bank after the cat.
If you followed the exhaust line from your exhaust manifolds backwards and can only find one 02 sensor, then your truck probably only has one.

All 1996 and new vehicles are OBDII. They all have O2 sensors before and after the cat. The before cat O2 sensor senses the oxygen content in the exhaust. The after cat O2 sensor measures the cat’s efficiency.
