clutch return equalizer parts

Hope this helps somebody. Please note that I am no expert and this is only what worked for me. I needed to rebuild my equalizer bar (Z-Bar). I found several sources for all the parts. However I opted to get what I could locally and fabricate the rest. Out of four Ford dealers in as many towns I found one who had the plastic bushings/*****. They could only go back to 1980 in parts lookup but I had found the ford numbers on the net. None had the felt washers or C-Clips. My truck still had one of each intact so I decided to fabricate the other. I searched hi and low for material but no luck. Then it struck me that I had a possible option right in my office. It was a chalk board eraser. I first attempted using one of the individual layers but it was too narrow. A new one might work. This one was worn down from use. Then I decided to try the back. It is two layered, glued together. The outside hard and the inside soft. Using the old one for size, I cut one out. I placed the soft side next to the tube. It seems to have worked just fine. Time will tell if it will hold up from weather, grease and wear. If you dont' have one for a pattern, make it slightly bigger than the tube. It does not go inside the tube. It goes between the tube and the bracket on the outer side and between the tube and washer on the motor side. There was no washer on my motor side pivot. I already had a large hole washer that fit perfectly. The biggest problem was the C-Clip that holds the ball on. Only one had survived. All available clips were not made like the old one. The newer type is so large overall that they will rub the inside of the pipe. I took one and filed it down inside and out. I wasn't completely happy with it. I'm not sure how easy it will be of coming off during use. Be sure to pack with grease.

THat Ford dealer was giving you the business when they said they couldn't look up for parts older than 1980. Every dealers parts room I ever worked at ALL had a copy of the 65-72 or 73-79 truck parts catalog on microfiche. What a bunch of lazy SOB's. I made sure all my employees would take care of anyone who came up to the counter, no matter what year parts they were looking for. These kids today that are in the business don't care about the older stuff, just those Damn rice rockets they drive!!
