Hello I just bought a 1979 L9000 vin is W912VEC7515. I was hoping someone can decode & get me info on it.
Thank you
Tried my best with the VIN provided. I have the book of codes if you have the complete VIN and identification plate.
W912 - LNT9000 Chassis Cab, Diesel, TandemV - 12.1L Detroit 8V92
E - Assembly Year C7515 - Assembly Sequence
2 = Detroit 6-71N OR Cummins NTC290 six cylinder diesels. (Where did you find an 8V92 under that engine code?) OP can confirm what it is.
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
EC7515 = 1979 numerical series, I can't determine the production month.
You should have a certification label with transmission and axle info etc.
Yes 6-71 Detroit 13 spd not sure why such low gears probably 4.88 or slower lol can start in 4th no problem. It has an aluminum tag on the door with just the VIN #. Will look again it might have a sticker on B pillar (door jam) below striker plate, I think it is either faded out or painted over.
That’s the original build sheet Lots of good info there
70 amp alternator
Can’t read all the numbers but it has a Eaton 13 spd trans
38000 lb Hendrickson rear suspension
16000 lb front axle
Eaton rears with 4.88 gears
Lot more info and original part numbers
Take a photo and preserve it
There’s more info there on your truck then most will ever have
