So my son tried to hook a new battery in my 2000 Ford expedition Eddie Bauer series but he did it in reverse after the smoke and the fireworks I tried to correct to proper position but it’s still sparking at me and smoke came from the alternator any answers to what I can do or what this would be? I have checked battery, battery terminals, alternator fuses with multimeter. Everything is OK, but upon connection it’s sparking
Welcome to FTE. Your issue could have resulted in one or more of several scenarios. The worst of which is you will need to replace your major electrical components.
Take your question to the Miscellaneous forums, There you will find a subforum on electrical issues. That is where you will find the experts. They are probably going to tell you they need more information. They need you to do a couple things, before they can give you a qualified answer. Things like do voltage and continuity checks. Before you ask, if you don't have one, go to any automotive parts store, Walmart, NAPA, etc. and buy a good, ($30) or so, volt/ohm meter. You will be able to do your own analysis, with their help, and determine what parts need to be replaced. Expect to here terms like "reversed polarity", "shorted", "polarized" and so on.
Check out you state chapter, found in the, "Regional Chapters" forum. There may be another member, real close by, that will be able to help you.
