Hey guys I was thinking about doing a cummins swap in my 1955 F350 because I feel it would be the easiest option. Before I dive in with both feet though, has anyone done a 6.7 stand alone swap into an older truck? Thanks in advance. Cheers!
My only comment is make sure you have the resources to finish the swap 100%.
You have a good truck in the photo.
There are 1,000's of similar projects that never were finished and the grand-kids cleaned up the farm and sent it all to the scrap yard.
What cummins are you thinking of swapping? Are you just wanting a diesel in it or trying to make alot of power? The 6.7 has so much computer and wiring that needs to go with it and sensors for everything possible. I've got a 1950 F3 and thought of a diesel swap but staying with a ford powerplant, either a 7.3 IDI (which i have lots of experience with) or a 7.3 Powerstroke from a late 90s. The older trucks need some extra reinforcement to handle the weight and power. Will the V8 fit in that truck of your? ALso need to consider what transmission will fit and how much firewall you want to chop up. I don't think theres enough room for the cooling system a 6.7 needs under the hood in the older trucks.
A VE or P-pump Cummins is probably the easiest thing but still no cake walk by any means.
I've seen that article before.... More info would have been great... since the 6.7 dash was fabbed into the older truck, a good start would be to find a wrecked older 6.7 truck so you have the modules required to make this work. Not sure on how much of this is true, but whatever you need, would be in the wreck.
Okay so using this for search terms, "wrecked ford f250 trucks for sale"
Another idea is to use the frame from the wrecked vehicle; cut to what you need or cut out a section, fab body mounts if possible and mount old truck body on new frame...
Thanks for all of the info. The easiest cummins swap would be a 5.9 but I think a 6.7 cummins swap would be awesome as well. Again going back to wanting to keep it all ford I was wondering if the 6.7 powerstroke would be an option but that seems like it might take this project to an entirely different level. Also I had thoughts of an old 453 detroit which would have the coolness factor but they aren't huge power houses and I want to be able to spin all 4 tires as Im keeping it a dually.

In the 80's, in N Cal there was a movement to swap the Detroit's into 3/4 ton trucks. I worked with several of those guy's.
One drawback was having to raise the entire body about 3" to give the hood clearance on top of the engine.
They always got a lot of looks when starting from a dead stop. All automatic trans.
Best of luck

I had a 96 F250 with Dana 60 SAS with a 5.8W. I had thoughts back then to swap in a 5.9, but time, money and lack of experience, tools and a bigger garage kept it from getting done. I sold it, with the plow, before I even had my current ride.
To be honest, I'm glad I didn't do a Cummins swap. Not because it's not a good engine but looking at it now, I'd want to keep it all Ford too. Too many certain brand trucks driving out there with their big C decals... but I digress...
My ultimate dream ride would be a OBS F350 CCSB 4x4 with a 6.7 Powerstroke... with updated interior... but that wouldn't be an easy nor cheap project... it would probably be easier to swap the OBS body onto the frame and go from there...
I wish you luck with this and let us know what you decide to go with... I love built and not bought trucks...
You could also look into the new 7.3 Godzilla gasser crate engine too...
