Tried hooking up a trailer(5x8 utility) up to the truck to make a run to the landfill. Drove 45 minutes home and started up to move the truck around to the trailer around the house and everything worked as it should. After hooking up the trailer and attaching the 4pin I started the truck and noticed a lack of power in OD, as well as my speedometer and tachometer sitting at 0 with the truck on and moving, all other gauges still worked properly. I had fixed this issue when I bought the truck by replacing the VSS and Tach Sensor, so they were no older than 8 months at this point, but I still replaced them again, also no VSS on transmission. I didn’t move it far enough for it to try to shift. It does go into reverse, 1st and, 2nd with proper power but only OD is in limp mode. Whenever I start the truck the needles will flutter but still rest at 0 while running. I checked every fuse under the dash as well as the fuses in the engine compartment, none were blown. I plan on pulling the cluster to check connections today. Has anyone on here ever dealt with a Speedo/Tach/OD issue this persistent?
I don't know the answer to your question, I had a fluttering / dead tach and fixed it with a new sensor. I still had a mysterious flashing o/d light I pulled the dash and cleaned the connections on the plug and it's ran fine since, I really didn't think it would work but I was out of options,
Is the trailer 4 pin still hooked up? Unplug it and see if it goes back to normal. I'm guessing you have a short in the trailer wiring that is backfeeding to the truck and messing with the sensors.
