Hearing aids

Hi,
I've worn hearing aids since 2011-- and probably could have started earlier. I would be much happier with a totally different concept. I would like to something as large as regular over the ear headphones. Probably with a 'stinger' microphone as well.
There are a number of reasons for this:
1. They would be a lot easier to locate
2. There would be enough room for even better electronics than they have today. And some decent batteries
- might even be able to put in a noise cutoff so it would limit the sound to a certain level.
3. The controls could be solid and human sized
4. The microphones could be physically separated at a reasonable distance. They often have 2 or 3 today, but they're closely spaced because the darn things aren't very big.
5, Could have a quiet time noise cancelling option and solid bluetooth connectivity
6. No more probes in my ear canal

Yes, people could tell that you had on hearing aids -- they often can anyway. I'm old -- as are probably a lot of other HOH'ers. I don't care and perhaps a lot of don't either.

Be interested in any comments.

Thanks,

hj

I'm blessed that at my age my hearing is just as good as it was when I was 20. If it's genetic, it's on mom's side as dad wore hear aids once he hit 70. His hearing was so bad that the TV volume was turned up to "hurt ya" and nobody else could be in the room if he wasn't wearing the hearing aids. He was also one of the early users of the "digital" hearing aids. They were adjustable, but not by the user/owner. They'd start with an approximate adjustment, then alter the adjustments over time as needed. The newer versions are MUCH better than those early digital aids. I suggest you let your audiologist recommend hearing aids that are appropriate for you.

I lost a fishing buddy some years ago to his hearing. As his hearing deteriorated he tried different aids. He'd gotten to the point that he didn't know that you were talking unless you were looking at him. His hearing aids were amplifiers that allowed him to hear reasonably well, but it didn't take much breeze before the wind noise drowned out the other sounds. Finally, he was faced with being on the water with a friend in dead silence or suffer the pain of the hearing aids picking up the background noises. He couldn't stand the isolation, so he "retired" to indoor activities.

Take care that your hearing doesn't get to that point!
