Update. I buffed the whole thing last yr and it looked great for a while but eventually the paint faded even though I keep it in the garage most of the time.
Yesterday I tried the poppys patina. I did the wipe on version and it came out really well I think. It did absolute wonders on all the trim. trim went from a 3 to an 8. Just have a couple spots to touch up but all in all quite happy with it.
Looks good!! Personally, after having nice paint jobs and always worrying about them when using the truck as a truck, or where it was parked, I really like my patina'd trucks. Shrek my 66 I've had for like 15yrs was going to get a new paint job, but after I scrubbed him with a green monster and was driving him around I got more compliments on him that when I had my pretty trucks lol! And, I don't worry about scratches or anything! Now mind you I also have my 77 F150 4x/SB that is still a pretty boy with nice paint, so I'm not opposed to either.
got the shine juice from vice grip turns out its just poppys with a different label on the can. finally got to taking the primer off the roof the po rattle can job the whole truck. used sanding sponges with soap and water then wiped the whole truck down with the sauce. it wont last forever but keeps the bare metal from flash rusting. gonna get some of the wipe on clear for the next time.
Last year I scrubbed Shrek down with green monsters and then did a mix of Boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits, I forget the ratio, but was happy with the results, personally I prefer the "natural" patina of age..
Shrek after his first scrub Sid the pretty boy now Everything is Patina'd lol
This is the before and after on our ‘76 following a 5 stage polish job and the high gloss patina preserver. 10 ft paint job look for sure, but hopefully it will keep the rust at bay until we can do something more permanent down the road. If I get the time I might try to knock down some of the streak marks with a heavy cut polish or 3000 grit.
Yeah, I agree. It was more of a fun project to see what I could do with a DA buffer and some easy wipe on stuff. It will get de-glossed as the truck does its job I can assure you.
