Kinda inherited this truck. In 2wd when I turn a sharp corner it makes rattling noise from front hub area. Hubs are not engaged. In 2wd, is the front driveshaft suppose to turn out of the tranfer case?
In 2wd with the hubs unlocked you should be able to grab the front driveshaft and spin it. Same for the front axle, turn the wheels to get easier access and spin the ujoints. If something doesn't spin, something is engaged
Similar to what wes said. It very well could be that one (or both) of the hubs are not disengaging. It is not unusual for esof hubs to do this and need to be cleaned and greased. In fact I just had this issue and corrected it with the hub service the other month.
I forget to mention that the hubs are not locked and I get the noise on sharp turns. Does the front driveshaft always turn when truck is moving.
even if they are in unlocked position, they may have not fully unlocked. No the driveshaft and axle shaft should not spin when the wheel turns if they are truly unlocked
parasitic drag can cause the shaft to spin even if everything is unlocked... so yes they can spin while unlocked. but you should be able to grab it and stop it so if on a lift and in two wheel drive you might notice that your front wheels spin and the shaft spins with them. you should be able to grab the front tires and stop them (at slow Rpm's of course) and even then the shaft might continue to spin due to drag. grab the saft while on the lift and all of them should stop spinning.
it is jsut like an open differential when on the lift...put the vehicle in gear and both sides will spin...grab one and it will stop and the other will continue to spin.
Ok, so I have the truck raised up and jack stands under all 4 corners. When I crawl under the truck I cannot spin the front drivershaft freely, in fact it spins the driveshaft going to the rear.
So, I can rotate both front tires without the U joints at the wheel hub spinning. The front driveshaft does not spin at all. Truck in park and not running. The front driveshaft will rock back and forth and I can see the rear driveshaft move a little.

Nice work diagnosing
Now to figure out why. Do you have the electronic transfer case, or manual?
Hopefully it's electronic and it's just the servo motor or the pigtail.
If it's manual there's only 2 external places it could be, the shift **** to the linkage bolt could have came out, but shifter would be super flimsy being held in place only by the boot, and the linkage at the transfer case
So, I notice on the transfer case under the drivers seat side that there is a shaft sticking out about half an inch. Shaft is flat on two sides. Pigtail laying underneth this shaft. I take it that is where the servo is suppose to be but it seems that I'm missing that part. Is this a parts store, dealer, or salvage yard part? What is it called?
This is the one I went with. Still going strong since 2018.
