Radio Install Information

My truck came with a CD player when I bought it. I want to put a ford tape player in it.

I took out the CD player which had some kind of custom mount thing, and I cannot figure out how the ford tape player is held in place. Where can I find information on this?

IIRC, (edited) the Bullnose era radios were mounted through a dash opening that was square, to accommodate the tape player, radio preset buttons and two holes which the stems of the tuner and volume ***** pass through. Also, a strut mounted to a stud on the back of the OEM unit. When the new aftermarket deck gets installed, they cut away the holes to accommodate the new mounting hardware. You might find an unmodified bezel online.

Man, that's a good-looking piece.
I decided that l want the woodgrain trimmed cluster/radio bezel in my truck and haven't been able to find one. There's a couple on ebay, but l'm wanting the non a/c panel (no vents), both pieces, and in good condition. Tall order, l know.
They were all over the place when l wasn't interested... usually how it goes.

There are a few of the radio bezels by themselves available right now, if the OP needs a replacement and isn't too particular about the condition/trim.

Not a good picture but there is a plate that the radio bolts to and then 4 screws hold the plate to the dash and as said a support off the back of the radio to firewall IIRC.

Then the bezel fits over the radio & HVAC controls to finish it off.

Yes the bezel was cut up before I got it but was better than the other I had.
If I make a black filler to fit from behind the bezel you would not see the opening and you really dont see in when in the truck.

The radio did not mount to the piece in the above picture. The piece in the above picture is plastic and just for looks. There was a metal plate with the same holes in it that mounted to the **** shafts like was mentioned, and this metal plate was held to the dash with 4 screws. Then the plastic piece went on over it and then the ***** are pushed on. They may have had some minor variatons on this theme through the years, but that plastic piece above is not strong enough to support the radio. You can see it just slips in at the bottom and has a couple of screws at the top.

The metal plate at the front of the radio is item #10A860. At the back of the radio, see bracket #18888. IIRC, it bolts to the radio and slides onto structure. This helps stabilize the radio and keeps it from flopping around.

Excellent. Yes this bracket is what I was looking for. Do you know which bracket fits the cassette player I bought? Here is the picture.

The bolt that I think it interfaces with is right square in the middle.
