This kit kit costs a few $$$$, but I wonder if anyone has tried to round up parts from a salvage yard and make it work? I’ve never bought a PS rack from a junk yard, so I’ve no idea if it could potentially save any money. Of course, you need to find a suitable rack to start with.
I researched this thoroughly & even talked to one boy who bought it & said it was the best thing he ever did to his truck. However others had used junkyard r&p & made them work also. I had already bought a Toyota Steering gear & put a kit in it so I let it go. But I sold the Toyota gear & went Cross Steer cause I'm building a Gasser Style of truck.
Lotta people will tell you r&p on a straight axle not safe but Mack Trucks built a Class 8 Long Hood truck called a West Coaster, or Cruze Liner can't remember that had the steering gear bolted to the front axle. Never seen one fail.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the reply. So it’s good to hear that it can be done. I think if I was to try it, I’d need to take some measurements and head to a scrap yard. I wonder if some parts from a Crown Vic would work, since many people do front clip swaps using a Crown Vic. I’ve heard also about using Toyota pump.
