Hey y'all,
I was working on my new front springs and had a heck of a time. I'm installing some "X codes" from SD Truck Springs. It started out okay. I was able to get everything apart and the passenger side bolted up (not torqued). I got over to the driver's side and fought every piece. I've got the u-bolts snugged up and the front spring eye in the hanger. Problem is nothing's lining up. I can't get the bolt in the front spring eye and the back of the spring is kicked 2" outside the frame and doesn't move much. I'm not understanding how it got so cockeyed. Before I unbolt everything and start over, does anyone have any idea how I can get this straightened out? (tomorrow lol)
Back of driver's side, way off:
Pass side bolted up, wasn't too bad...
Thanks everyone for any input. I've had my Ex for 2 years and there's no better place for info than FTE.
Thank you for getting back to me. I knew I was taking a chance posting Saturday night about a topic been beat to death lol... But I was feeling a little defeated.
You are spot on. I ended up loosening the u-bolts then putting the spring hanger and shackle together. Then used a ratchet strap and copious amounts of foul language to get the center pin into the perch. My mistake was, I saw the upper and lower plates and assumed they'd be a PITA to line up. They kinda are, but not like the spring eyes lol...
The EX handed me my *** this weekend. But so far SOOOOO worth it. It was banging, clunking, and rolling. I took as test drive around the neighborhood... Banging and clunking: GONE! Can't wait to see how she handles on the highway tomorrow.
The ride is so much better. I can feel the road now. It's weird after 2 years of mushy springs. I also installed new sway bar links and bushings so can't wait to head up a mountain pass and feel the difference.
Had to break out Grandpa's channel locks to get the spring into the shackle.
New parts make me smile
I guess it's never going in the garage again... Now I have to get off my butt and build a carport or something... I'm 45 and working on cars outside is getting to be too much of a pain.
Before and after pics. I was never dissatisfied with the ride height but I didn't see much way to get the dang springs off the bump stops without doing this.
Amazing how much a little lift does to make it look more like a truck.
Remove those roof rails before they wreck your roof, then park it in the garage. I did X codes on mine also up front.
If nobody mentioned it to you yet, or it wasn't done, don't do the final torque until the truck is on the ground so it's sitting squarely on it's new suspension.
Also make sure you check and retorque those u-bolts after a bit of miles and bumps are put on this truck....and before you go up the trails!

I was trying to get that roof rail off. There is a little tab that keeps it from sliding all the way forward. I pushed it down thinking that would allow it to come off only for it to stick halfway through. What's the secret? And how do they wreck the roof??
I hillbillyed it out of the garage by putting it in neutral and bouncing on the truck until I shimmied it out
My plan is to re-torque this weekend, the oil change is due also
With those end cap tabs pushed down it should slip off the front or rear, just give it an extra little pressure. The factory low profile crossbars are actually just a little too low profile, they can bounce enough to wear through the paint on the roof.
Love the green color. I keep ending up with red vehicles somehow... The color just isn't a deal breaker if everything else I want is there. Maybe one day I'll get it painted
As for the roof rack, that's the beauty of owning a huge truck. Rarely do you need cargo on the roof In 2 years I've used them once. It was to get some 16' garage door struts home and it was a little sketchy anyway lol.

Wow after a week I had to put another turn/turn and a half on all those u-bolts. I think I'm going to check it again in a month.
