2000 ford f-350 super duty 4x4 A/t. 7.3 diesel. Pulled up to stop sign was like i put it in neutral would not foward or reverse after a while it worked now afraid to trust it any ideas
If you have the ESOF, it is possible the transfer case has slipped in between the 2h and 4h into a "neutral" spot. Happened to me on my 2000 7.3. no codes, no nothing, but will grind on the park dog leg if you dont shut it off first before placing in park. Theres plastic guides in the transfer case that wear out and allow this to happen. The transfer case sensors wont pick that small of a movement up, so no 4H light. Youll need to remove the shifting motor and base , then put the truck solidly into 2h with a 9/16 wrench. I ended up just going to a manual shift t-case....Trying to keep it simple. Good luck!
Thank you solid idea trans was full of atf first thing i looked at.something kept telling me to look at transfer case mine is a electric selection 2 wheel high 4 wheel high and 4 low i tried switching it around putit in gear it worked so i drove it home 22 miles Very good place to look at thank you

So, you can find the plastic guides on ebay/amazon but youre going to have to entirely disassemble the tcase to replace them. Not a bad idea to keep a 10mm socket and ratchet and a 9/16 wrench handy, just in case the 2H-4H-2H routine gives out on you. If you look on the shifting fork you can see the plastic guides. Be safe out there!
