6.0 fuel problem?
a month ago he was pulling his trailer on the interstate. He said it started losing power. He thought the brakes on his trailer were stuck and the trailer was pulling hard, he stopped and checked and the brakes were fine. He drove about 20 miles farther and it got worse, so he stopped. When he shut it off it wouldn’t start. He called me so I took off with a trailer to help. When i got there the truck started but was running rough and died after a few minutes. I thought the fuel had gelled, it was 20 degrees out. I did not have any treatment in my 2005 6.0 and mine ran fine on the way to help him. I put in a full bottle of the red 911 and it did not help. We ended up trailering it home. A few days later it was close to 65 degrees out so I changed the fuel filters and tried to start it. It did start but after a few seconds started running rough again. It acts like it is running out of fuel.
he hauled it to his mechanic to work on. I have not seen the truck since then but he said the mechanic tested the Ficm and said it is good. He also said they tested injectors and they are good. His mechanic thinks it is a fuel issue too. I suspected the pulp on the frame but he said the mechanic did a pressure test and the pump is good. I did crack the filter cover when I was taking it off. When I had it running fuel was seeping out of the crack so it was getting some fuel. The cap has been replaced and it still won’t run.
Any ideas from anyone on what to tell him to check? His mechanic is supposed to be experienced with diesels but he can’t figure out what is wrong with the truck.
