I am hearing a whistleing coming from the right rear at highway speeds. At first I thought it was engine noise in the stereo, turned off stereo and opened sliding rear window, is definitely from outside. Doesn't do it all the time but sometimes gets real loud. It may just be wind hitting something just right. What do bearings sound like when they wear, I thought it would grind, not whistle. I got 193,000 and drive 136 miles to work. It is beginning to drive me nuts.
Welcome to FTE jason175. Well, you've got to dig into it some where. Assuming that there's no body damage to that side, you might have to look closer at the rear-end. Has it ever had any service or repairs done on it?
My 94 XLT short bed/reg. cab makes a slight whistling noise at highway speeds and I haven't yet figured it out, I thought it might be the antenna and kind of ignore it. I have to be carefull about letting things drive me nuts, its a short drive! Anyhow, a wheel bearing will tend to growl and let up in intensity or get worse in a turn, depending on weather its the inboard or outboard bearing in the wheel, I have had this happen to me a couple of times.
I had a whistling in my '02 Ranger that when I first heard it I thought was coming from the radio. I ruled that out and found that it only happened above 65 MPH and then only once in a while for short durations. The sound seemed to be coming from the windshield area. I noticed that the right end of the driver's side wiper blade would be fluttering a little when I heard the noise; but, maybe that was only a coincidence. I haven't heard it lately - maybe I should turn the radio down.
