I have no idea how old the ICM in my 95 F150 is. Everything on the truck is working correctly at this time. The many posts I have read about the heat sink mounted ICM's state that a layer of dielectric grease is needed on the back side when replacing one.
Question one: Is this something that should be regreased periodically while doing general upkeep on the truck?
Question two: How much grease? Am I slathering it with grease or is it a light film?
Dielectric grease will do little to help protect ICM from the heat sink. Thermal Paste Compound or Heat Sink grease is what you should use for best results. Available from Amazon. Not sure about parts stores having it. It is more of a computer product.
I would pull off the ICM for inspection. Given the age and hot environment I suspect the existing thermal compound is dried up. I have seen that many times.
A light film of good quality thermal compound is all that is required.
To amend my response...reapplying on a regular schedule is not required. But after 20+ years I would do it as preventive maintenance.
