I haven’t had much luck finding a kind of all in one kit to rebuild the front end.
we were shoved off the road by a dump truck which caused a pretty nasty curb hit. It broke the rim and cut our break line… we put a spare tire in and replaced the break line on the side of the road and limped it home.
Now we need to replace a lot of stuff. First and most important is the power steering reservoir/ pump and the steering gearbox. We will need to do ball joints, wheel hubs, and all that stuff too. (I’m the wife so sorry I don’t know the part names/ correct words but my husband will).
Is there any all in one/ two kits out there? Or “must haves/ must avoid… just looking for recommendations or even advice!
I have not come across a complete front end rebuild kit or an assortment of parts arranged in kit form. Too many variations to do so or atleast I would think so. I recently rebuilt my front end on my 99 f350 drw. Moog sells a complete steering assy from spindles to steering box for a decent price. I found the assy on rock auto and they had the best price at the time. I now have the blue top steering gear box and bought a new steering shaft from Ford. Turns out the play was in the splined section of the steering shaft. Tell you husband to look at the slip joint on the shaft to be sure it doesn't move independently at all. I have a post on here with a short video.
that truly sucks you got ran off the road. Glad no one is hurt and hope you got a plate for restitution from the company!
I'm not aware of any 1 and done kits for all of it. You'll likely find kits w/ all the tie rods and drag link, another w/ ball joints and maybe bearings. Rockauto tends to be a reasonably priced vendor w/ reliable parts. Meaning if they say it's a Motorcraft part then what you receive is a Motorcraft part. The same can't be said for ebay defiantly nor Amazon at times. I recommend getting the best quality you can afford, names you know. Replacing those parts isn't cheap or fun so the better the parts the longer they'll last.
Oh, for the steering gear and pump, there are upgrade options out there that improve some of the factory shortcomings. I can't recommend any pumps but I've been real happy w/ my 05-07 updated steering gear. Very simple swap that only required drilling the frame holes to fit larger mounting bolts.
