Doing a good job. I was in the garage cleaning up supplies for another project I finished yesterday and realized I have some shift handle material in there waiting to be use. I have some mahogany and other species that might be well suited for the role.
I need to get to the hardware store for some angle iron and plumbing supplies for another project and will look at what they have for aluminum pipe for a lower end collar.
Can't wait to see how your shift **** comes along. Im sure it will look better than mine due to you having a lathe. I will get one one day!
I'm interested in the aluminum collar idea as well. Cant wait to see the finished product of both yours and my labor
Be careful with a “drive fit” using cedar wood as it is quite brittle. Hope for the best for you.
I've got it drilled out to where the splines of the shaft are the only thing touching the wood Once Driven into place. I'm going to take it easy tapping it on but I am confident I'm not going to crack it. We shall see
Well, here WAS the finished product. It went on great, and I decided to tap it one more time after trying it for a minute just to make sure it was seated and it cracked all the way through when I tapped it that last time. Good walk of shame back to the shop. I'll just have to make the next one better. For future reference, at least for my shifter, a 9/16 drill bit to make the hole was perfect for a drive on Style **** that would grab the splines good but still drive on somewhat easily. I was quite pleased with how well it held until I tapped it that last time. The qholenright loosey thing but different application. I may try some black cherry. Kind of heartbreaking after spending that much time but, it was my first time ever working with wood and we live and we learn. Maybe I should use something a little more sturdy next time. Maybe I should just make it out of Live Oak
Tristan, i think i have some osage or some black walnut that would serve... if you could pay shipping, and send the measurements that you want, i could turn one for you.

I appreciate the thought but, I want to be able to do this myself. Now that I failed once I have to do it. No way around it now!
