Hey everyone! I have a ‘79 f-150 with the 4.9 300 straight 6. I bent my power steering pump pulley trying to take it off and I need a new one. Is the pulley the same for all the motors of that era (302, 351, etc)? Thank you!!
So you must of used a 2 or 3 finger gear puller? And bent the outer edges. You know you have to use a actual p/s pump pulley puller. You can rent or borrow one from most auto parts stores that have a tool loaner program.
Yes I believe the 6 cly and the 302 p/s pump are the same. So do you have the p/s pump with the skinny metal fill neck (older style) or the one that the fill neck is made of plastic and is larger around? With a turn to lock on cap.
There is a thread on here somewhere answering this question. Actually Numbers Dummy had all the differences and numbers explained.
The PO of my 79 had a chrome pulley which was wrong. I believe the 300 pump pulley was a little different in someway BUT I had to end up at the JY and could only find a 80's something and it worked.
I always have a hard time tracking down old threads on here. Maybe some can revive it from wherever it is,,,LOL
