97 F250 truck died, owner went to ford they didn't have a sensor in stock so he went to NAPA, that one lasted about 10 miles of ranch road, went to autozoo, that one less than 5 miles, orilly's about 6 hours, ford got one in stock it lasted almost 1 day.
I have never dealt with that many cps failures in that short of a time. I understand parts store sensors being junk, but then the motorcraft one didn't do any better.
harness likes to break over the valve cover on drivers side
have to open up the loom and trace the wires back to 42pin connector looking for a break by pulling on the wires looking for a stretching of insulation
I've seen 2 stock trucks have the cam gear walk wiping out sensors. Mine did it too but was my own fault. New motor, new cam, didn't weld it on.
Glad you chimed in with this. I knew you had posted something about it and was looking for it to provide a link here, but could not find with advanced search. Thanks for sharing.
Bart let us know if you if it looks like that was the problem.
on a side note, the same ranch had a e99 that I changed the transmission in, they sent workers to pick it up. they took the 97 instead of the 99 drove it 100 miles back to the ranch and then brought it back without any problem. I had put one of my used motorcraft sensors in it so I could start it and move it. so was it 4 bad sensors in a row including one from ford?
What made you think it was cps related? Tac or code?
every time it died and wouldn't re start he changed the sensor and it ran fine.
I haven't done any troubleshooting on this truck yet, I was just curious if anyone had had multiple sensor failures before.
