I've got a 2010 E350 with the leaking vacuum hose issue that many of them get, where the short vacuum hose that comes off a T and goes to the vacuum canister gets rotted with age and leaks. First obvious symptoms are when the A/C defaults to Defrost under load. i.e. towing down the highway with the A/C on full through the vents, then when you go up a hill the air moves to the defroster outlets. This only happens under a heavy load.
So.. my question is if this vacuum leak could affect the brakes. My brakes work better on the second pump, like they have air in the lines, but they have been bled three times and I still have the issue. Given that the brakes use a vacuum booster, I'm wondering if this leak could be the real issue.
Everybody's brakes work better after a second pump
That is normal
That small vacuum leak affecting the HVAC will have no effect on the brake booster function
It should not even make the engine stumble
Fix it so you have good AC going up long hills, and peace of mind
There are already a number of threads how to restore the HVAC vacuum system quite simply, none of which require moving or removing the heater core etc etc. I created one myself: HVAC System
