I was on the road and my steering box bolts snapped.
Two bolts snapped while one just kinda digged on the threads. I wanted some second opinions on my ideas
after trying to remove the two snapped bolts, I realized that the bolts are super old and my bits are not really catching on and pulling them out. I’m gonna go a size up and try again tomorrow and see what happens. For the other hole, I tried rethreading it but the threads were too far gone to fix using that.
idea 1) see if redhead gears will service and fix it for me if the warranty lets me.
idea 2) drill new holes to like 1/2 or 9/6 -14 and find 6 inch bolts for that.
if I can’t get the box serviced, but remove the two old bolts I might just drill the one free hole to 1/2 and find a bolt for that
Get some keen serts in the size you need and install them according to the directions. They are expensive compaired to helicoils but they are robust
I’ll keep that in mind. But first redhead wanted to see the condition of the box and they said most likely they’ll print a label for me and I can send the box back. I’ll keep this in mind if they can’t repair it through the warranty
