1978 F150 antenna replacement

I am looking for an antenna that is threaded on so I can remove the mast. I've been going through the forums looking for a link to a suitable replacement and have had no luck. I found one on bronco graveyard that looks like it would work, but it was for a mid 80s model. Any input or link would be greatly appreciated. Also go easy on me it is my first post and have only had my truck a week.

Welcome to FTE, thank you for your service, Devil Dog.

Just curious why do you need a removable one, or do you already have the base and just need the threaded on/in antenna part? If that is the situation, you should be able to hit up about any big truck stop with a CB shop and they should have all sorts of options that might work. Test fit in the parking lot.

Why not just go back with a OEM set up? https://shop.broncograveyard.com/78-...uctinfo/28090/

I would think that a early to late 80 to 96 might work. This what you are looking at? The base looks the same as a 73-79, but not 100% on the cowl shape.

I used on from a mid '70s Plymouth, but I did trim the hole bigger when I done it. Then after installing it, set it tight, marked and bent the
stainless steel mast to point straight up. Did it in the '80s. Still there, works great too. Best view I have in picture form.

I do recall we sold a kit at the store when I was working part time.

Any of the square base antennas should interchange. The key part is the proper year base gasket to match cowl angle. The lead in coax will come out of the bottom of the mast if not too corroded, maybe a little soak of penetrant. You can swap mast and not have to worry about fishing the coax. Mustang used square base up till 93, iirc they had screw on mast. So a lot of possibilities. Keep your 78 rubber/plastic base gasket.

here’s a picture of mine installed.

The angle of the base is important on your 78. Whichever when you track down, make sure it has that angled base or reuse the one you currently have. I may have an extra somewhere in the parts box.
