Hello so I recently bought a 1997 ford f150 and I’m looking to put a turbo or two in there. It is a 4.6L with 32k miles, so I really don’t want to replace the block so I was thinking upgrading cams, rings and maybe the exhaust and tranny, what else needs to/ or is recommended to be upgraded before slapping a turbo on it? All suggestions are appreciated
Why change the cams if turbocharging it?
Turbocharging it and getting it to run right. will be hassle enough
32k means leave the rings alone as well
You would like to have a stronger bottom end Forged pistons and a better forged crank
That would break the bank
Might be cheaper to just buy a Harley edition or some other truck that is factory supercharged or turbocharged
You need to figure out exhaust and where you are going to put all that stuff
Unless you can build and weld your own headers and piping together, you will have trouble,it will break the bank
Go conservative on the boost, shoot for 8 lbs and it might / will not blow up. hit 15 and it should blow up
Do it, I help a guy out around here with his, (twin turbo 429 in a 74 F250)
Better off starting with a PI 5.4 swap due to cubes and better heads.
Also keep the 70W out of overdrive unless on freeway. Its clutch apply pattern beats on the forward and direct clutches on any 4-3 or 4-2 downshift.
You can get more life from it with a good shift kit. I just did another Superior Powertow kit and dig its crisper shifting. Billet OD servo also made the 3-4 upshift better and 4-3 downshift.
Pretty sure only 5.4 trucks had the external trans cooler. If so, just grab one from a junkyard for a seamless install.

turbo or supercharged isn’t a hassle unless you choose a **** poor tuner

the tow package adds the external transmission cooler regardless of engine
You'll have to show me that
What turblo kit where?
I know of no bolt on turbo kit for a 4.6 in a F150
A universal kit at best, and build your own headers
A real PITA
