I'd be more worried about aging fuel than oil.

On our 2019 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 short box 6.7 we have 14,000 miles. Bought for long trip RV’ing but with Covid that did not happen. The truck is in a temperature controlled garage, and almost all use is highway travel into town on paved roads, about 40 minutes each way. I’ve done 3 oil changes, based on maintenance minder prompts yearly. I use Rotella T6 and Ford oil filter. The last oil change was after 3,500 miles. I took a sample for analysis which indicated that oil would be good for at least another year and 5,000+ miles. Since then, in 12 months, the truck has added 2,400 miles and the oil change prompt is on.
I’m thinking I might just change the oil filter and leave the existing oil in place.
What do you think?

if you’re doing it yourself and you’re going to be under there to change the filter I would just do the whole oil change at that point.

I agree. I never understood people changing just the filter after so many miles. You’re under there, do the oil too

All my vehicles get the oil changed on an annual basis unless they exceed the mileage threshold before the 12 month boundary.

With regard to shelf life of oil, AutoZone has an article about this. It's short on scientific facts and they are in the business of selling oil, so take it with a grain of salt.

https://www.autozone.com/diy/motor-o...tor-oil-expire

Valvoline says their oils have no documented expiration date.

Oil becomes very acidic, old oil eating away at seal and bearing material..... Something to think about
I would also start it frequently/monthly to help keep the condensation out of the oil.
With biofuel, almost everywhere now. Be sure and run a algaecide in the diesel fuel.

Let it run for awhile to have time to heat up and rid any moisture in the oil and fuel. We had a 2MW DG let go because of years of short readiness starts and zero to little run time. Moisture caused corrosion, finally caused scoring, which ended up hanging a cylinder and the connecting rod tore off. An extreme example but you get the idea.

My Onan/Cummins genset manual says to run it once a month under load. This is the on-board generator in my RV. I run it as the specs say. It may have more monthly maintenance hours on it that actual use. I do change the oil once a year, even though it never hits the number of threshold hours for an oil change.
