Tires/rims question

Hi All

I have a 2003 navigator that takes 18 inch x 8 inch rims. (the OEM are the ones the have the flat shiny spokes)
I want to replace them since the chrome plating is starting to come off, etc
I see they made/make a 18inch x 7.5 metal alloy that was also listed as an OEM rim (has the center cap spot, etc)

The question is, does that 1/2 inch matter enough where I have to get new tires or can I run the same Michelin's that I have on there now? - or does it matter enough to be a problem when mounting the tires on the truck? - or do I need 1/2 inch spacers (I don't want to do that if I don't have to)

I just want to swap the current tires onto these newer rims without an issue, etc.

Thanks

Most tires fit a range of rim widths. Search your tires on the internet and see what they fit, it probably includes 7.5". Tirerack is a good website that usually provides the rim width range. Or you could ask a tire shop, but a lot of places these days won't give advice for fear of liability. The .5" inch change shouldn't matter much to the truck. Initially the tires will look like they're slightly tucked in, but I'd bet you won't notice after a couple weeks. Most people change tires and rims. It would be interesting to hear your feedback of changing just the rim width.
