Good to hear the new VR fixed the charging issue. Sometimes the contacts on the old ones get so pitted, they just don't make good electrical connections anymore. Physically they look good, but won't pass current. Anyway this is what I found at times just messing around with some dead VRs off of my friends old cars and tractors.
About the bulb sockets. Most auto parts stores have the Dorman HELP line of hangimg "parts cards" display. You might find them there, just hanging on a peg.
