My truck developed a pretty sever knock and I’m currently trying to diagnose the issue and fix it. I just pulled the pushrods out and 2 of the rods have different “heads” and look like the oil has been burnt on more… any idea why?
Are they the same height as the rest? If so might just be an aftermarket part.
Knocking as in tapping sound? Or actual knock as rod knock? My 69 did this after I got it running this go around, I think it's collapsed lifters no pumping up.
Those 2 push rods are the wrong ones. The ball size is smaller then the rest of them making them set further into the rocker and lifter thus, making it to short.
Is it a knock or a tap? Makes big difference when diagnosing. Knocks are usually in the bottom end (connecting rod) and taps in the top (valve train).
I would be more worried about the rust and pitting from rust on the push rods than the ends on the 2.
Then again if it is a rod knock who cares at that point as the motor needs a rebuild and I would replace all the push rods.
What is the oil pressure cold idle and hot idle?

Those two pushrods do have the same dia. ball end, but I wouldn't worry about it right now because they were probably just replaced years ago for one reason or another and that's what brand or style they found to work. Possibly had to have valve work done or bent pushrods, who knows. Like others said though, is it a knock or more of a tap?
