You can upgrade your ignition box, to a Capacitive Discharge unit or a multipe spark unit that will improve the throttle response and will help even out you idle. You might get better fuel mileage.
Crane Cams Hi - 6 makes an excellent box, I have them on a pair of 390's in 68 and 71 F100's, both motors get 14-15 MPG.
FoMoCo makes OEM breakerless system for their 460s in Trucks from 77 up, w/ 460 CID. Usually they have Blue band/ Blue struck System. Lincolns also use same, Blue Band system thru 78, then in 400s after 79, which also fits. A 351M/400 system works, but you may want to tune advance curve to reflect 460s needs better.
I can't twist my 460 RPM up high enough to scramble signal or function of OEM Blue Band system. I can also run a standard, non electronic ignition, 1 piece, distribuitur cap, using a set Magnetic Supression Wires on OEM distribuitor base, instead of the Stock 2 piece cap & fat wires. . . . .
But then again, I can only seem to get my truck into mid 12s in the 1/4 mile with trap speeds avg of 125+mph. So maybe I'm not running hard enough to know the difference????.
