Sorry I know that this has been discussed before but I can't find it.
Is there a definitive code for paint colors?
Specifically I am wondering what '3' means?

3 was used on the build code from the firewall for color black

 

The easy ones for 48, 49 are:
3 - black M-1724
2 - vermillion red M-1722
7 - meadow green M-14283
4 - gray (I think) M-14286
10 - yellow (I think) M-14301

If anyone can verify or correct please do so.

That is what I thought though somewhere earlier I remember reading that 3 was for red. When I pulled my truck out of the weeds in 1975 it was mostly red but with black under or maybe over? Inside the cab when stripped down is red. Confusing!

By 52-54 Vermillion was noted as E or N depending on the assembly plant.

The codes I have came from guys who provided that info over the past 20 years. I haven't seen a 3 code for red before.
One possibility is a code that was mis-stamped at the factory. Mondays and Fridays do happen in the plants.

Beige, Sunland was 10?
Yellow, Chrome was 16?

That's quite possible Moe, I've had them reported both ways.
