I have a 00'ccsb 6.8 4x4, sticker says 8800 gvw, local landfill scale, 7100 lbs with100 lbs of dogs and 325 lbs of humans. Camper I'm looking at manufacture weight 1863 lbs. Add 300 lbs of stuff.
I will be overweight by several hundred pounds. Is this a BIG problem?
The question is, is that the actual weight of the camper or the dry weight before manufacturer required "option" packages?
If actual weight, it's up to you but i don't think it will hurt the truck. Mine is 1700 something as manufactured +ac I added on a 2000 f350 super cab lb srw 7.3, the truck rides better with it on, other than that I dont really know it is there.
If I were a betting man, I would bet the camper weight you are projecting is much less than actual loaded weight will prove to be. As the saying goes the manufacturer’s weight is not what it actually is, it’s what they wish it was. There are exceptions to that, but not many.
In regards to running above your truck’s numbers, if you run a search you will find voluminous debates on that subject.
Thanks, the manufacturer weight sticker inside a cabinet door reads, 1863 with these options, a/c ,microwave, 20lb propane, heater, refrigerator and 25gal water and 1 battery.
truck has new, good e rated tires and Firestone air bags.
I have read many comment 99/00' sd gvw and most say it's underrated, but, that doesn't make it safe according to the weight police
I’m impressed! Much better than usual in my experience. Don’t forget you still have weight of whatever you are going to use to keep your camper on the truck, then it is just how you pack.

thanks RVT, I looked up my spring codes on door pillar, it doesn't make any sense to me.
the more I look the more confused I get.

Like some folks here, I CAT scale our rig. Weight has a way of sneaking up and sometimes the camper has to go on a diet. For us the easiest solution was to tow our Jeep. It doubles as a trailer and is much easier to drive and park in town than our F350.
I really don't think it's that big of a deal. We have pretty much the same running gear just different springs. My 1800 ish camper doesn't even bring my truck to level, that is on f350 springs... like I said not going to hurt a well maintained truck. If you choose to do it make sure your air bags are independent, and you might want heavier springs.
also make sure your maintenance is taken care of, good shocks, brakes, flush your brake fluid... and as said above watch what you pack, it adds up fast.
I know discussions about weight can bring with them considerable vitriol, so my perhaps overly simple approach was to read the owner’s manual as it has a section about loading and GVWR. Then we weighed the truck with a full tank of fuel along with my wife and I and our tie downs. That told me how much weight we could add before we hit our GVWR.
Then we weighed again with everything we could think of onboard as we would if heading West and made sure we were within our GVWR as well as within our axles and tires. That was it. Not trying to tell anyone else what to do, just saying that’s how we did it. Since then we have also weighed with the Jeep tethered.
Thanks for all the replies.
to answer your questions, first off, my door sticker does not have an axle code, I need to look into that, my tires are Yokohama geolanders load range e, 3043lbs for singles.
Rear spring code are 5310 @3000 lb capacity each side. The front leaf spring is rated 27xx lbs each side. New bilstein 5100 shocks ,After considerable research, I'm not sure there's a straight answer.
here's a puzzling question, If you subtract the unsprung weight of a 4x4 f250 sd seems there's a lot more payload available. Theoretically, if you subtract the weight of my short bed, let's say it's 1000 lbs that leaves approximately 4000+ available payload. ..?
