Radiator Support Project

Post by Ferris95 » Fri Mar 03, 2023 3:00 pm
I was wondering before I tackle replacing the rusty radiator support, does it just unbolt, or is it welded to anything? If just lots of bolts to get it our and replaced, then I can do that. If it has to be cut out and rewarded anywhere, then that is a little problem. And anyone have a place I should get it? I was looking at this one from Dennis Carpenter. Part #: C7TZ-16378-A
But I can get one at LMC or NPD. $375 at DK and NPD, but only $305 at LMC. Is there a Quality difference?

Also, is there anything else I should be looking at replacing while I have this off?

It unbolts from the fenders, inner fender, grill, radiator, and frame. You may want new core support mounts, because they may be wore out with this age of trucks. Also, I would stay with Dennis and NPD for sheet metal parts. _ Tony

Thumbs up Radiator support

2Xs with LACzar. I purchased one from DC and it fit with no problems. Since they ship out so much stuff the freight was around $12.00. That was 3 years ago however.

Good advise given, can only add: Make sure you order the correct one for your application as there are two types. Super Cool and everything else. The radiator mounts to the support completely different between the two.

Wow, $12 for shipping the support frame? They want $200 for freight now and I live in SC and it’s coming from NC! LMC is $150 and NPD is $275! It’s crazy!
Once I tear it out, is there anything like gaskets or such that I will need when I put it back in?

I know this is off topic, but I was just laying under the truck and without the radiator and everything off the front of the engine (water pump, alternator AC compressor) and wondered if I can pull the oil pan off to the front if it’s not able to be taken slid out towards the transmission? Just looks so easy, but thought someone might know if it can be taken off with all that stuff out of the way. Want to paint it along with everything on the underside now thatI am also changing the radiator support.

RTT, where do you live? I live in Charleston, SC and it shows 199.99 to ship the radiator support and if I take that out and put the in-cab gas tank, it shows $39.99 to ship it. I don’t understand it. I live 165 miles from Concord, NC where their store is. Maybe different parts ship from different ares of the country? After you let me know your location, I will email them and ask why the huge difference in shipping prices. Try putting the radiator support in your cart and see how much that is to ship to you. Now I am very curious as this is almost doubling the cost of the part for me! I can drive there in just over 3 hours! I may do that if gas wise it’s worth it!

I spoke with them twice 3 months or so ago was last time, and both times they quoted me $14.99 because that is a flat rate of anything over $99. is $14.99 . Less than $100.00 is $9.99 . I was shocked it was not a freight charge . I bought a great tank from Auto Metal instead because it was $100.00 cheaper...........Does not fit perfect but may be me adding some insulation behind tank , but I do not think that is reason. Tank looks high quality

So it’s $180 more for an XL freight charge vs just a freight charge it seems. Rip off! Be $100 cheaper to get the part from LMC ($50 less for part and $50 less for shipping). But is their part inferior to Dennis Carpenter?

All of the smaller parts that I have bought from LMC over the years I have never had a problem with except one. It was a bad sending unit for my 70 f250s saddle tank. Some complain about their rubber parts, I have on bought one. It was a filler hose for the saddle tank and its been in my truck since 1996. I havent bought any replacement metal though. What state are you in? I get these trucks every once in a while at the JYs here in southern Nevada.

I have never bought anything from LMC , so I cannot comment . Carpenter's radiator support must come from a vender & gas tank is from Carpenter is why there is a flat rate shipping charge & not freight charge !!! Plus the mark-up allows them to eat the shipping cost .

You are so close that I would just drive there and pick it up. I was in NC a while back for a NASCAR race and just dropped in and picked up a bunch of parts so I didn't have to pay shipping. Also I have bought parts from LMC, I would not buy any rubber parts from them now. The other parts are ok at best.

IMO. Avoid lmc like the plague. If I lived that close to Carpenters I would make sure they had one in stock and say hold it I'm on my way.
