Question Mission changed, would you keep it?

Back story: during covid restrictions, we decided we wanted a travel trailer or 5th wheel. My F-150 at the time didn't have enough payload, so we shopped around for a F350. We spent a couple of months chasing down trucks only to find they had just sold, or were marked up with a market adjustment. Finally, I ordered through Granger Ford in early November 2021. Unfortunately, we didn't get the truck until the end of January 2023! In the meantime, travel and other activities have returned to normal. RV prices suck and the places we want to travel are booked for this summer (everyone else had the same idea about buying an RV). The family members we planned to visit in the RV have moved to places where it isn't practical. So, we've decided to not buy an RV.

Now I have a diesel Platinum F350 loaded up for towing and nothing to tow. The biggest workout it will get is occasionally hauling mulch or moving some furniture. I work from home, so the mileage will be low. Probably 10,000 miles per year average if we take it on a few trips. I really like the truck, but it is way more than we need for so little use.
On the plus side:
The 6.7 is amazing. The power and sound is addicting.
I like the interior - Dark Marsala looks great in person.
The options package is good - especially 360 cameras and multi contour seats.
On the negative side:
Expensive oil changes.
Stiff empty ride.
City and parking lot navigation isn't graceful!
My wife doesn't like driving it. (could be a plus).
Anyone have a similar experience? Would you keep a F350 diesel for light duty service?

I have decided to keep my truck. I'm enjoying the power and features too much to consider trading down to a F150. My truck is equipped with every option I wanted. The current selection of F150's in the area don't compare. Until supply chain issues ease and there are better alternatives, I'll have fun with this beast.

I would say sell it but honestly more because of the short trips and light usage for the diesel than because of the size or ride......then again, I daily a CC/LB/Dually so a shortbox SRW doesn't seem like a big deal to me to manouver and park and I prefer a firm ride to a mushy one. Sounds like a nice truck, but you just don't need anything that capable. My heart would say to get a 7.3 Tremor but my head says F150.

2 cents,
Dave

Personal attachment and feelings aside, you have a slam dunk case that concludes sell it and move back to an F150. Just my 0.02 but I would not be drivng around all that truck with no trailer to tow.

yeah, but 150s are almost as expensive as SuperDuty now. I’d just keep it. You’ll never have to worry about having enough truck if something else changes in the future.

Are you sure you are not on the "Love it or List it" TV show ?

Sell that bad boy and let it go to a good home. Let it sit, collect moisture or get vandalized and you would wish it was gone.

Best of Luck

You can't have too much truck. However, the diesel would be happier being driven more.

Keep it unless you can get a real great price for it. Changing trucks has costs: hassle, time, sales tax, selling process, registration. You might want that travel trailer again in a couple years!

It seems like a pretty simple decision, either you like it enough to keep it, or you don't, and have something else you would rather own. Ultimately only you can decide what is right for you.

I wouldn't hesitate to keep an F-350 for light duty service. I keep an F-250 that only sees maybe half the annual miles that you anticipate doing, and all light duty. With low use comes fewer oil changes, so that cost shouldn't be a consideration.

Congrats. You fit in perfect with 75% of HD diesel truck owners.

Black Buzzard summed it up pretty good above. You waited over a year for it and now it’s sitting in your driveway. Just keep it IMO

Keep it until you find exactly what you are looking for in a F-150. Then make the choice. Selling a truck you like in hopes of finding one you like better doesn't make sense to me. Maybe you'll get a wild hair and rent an RV this summer and travel somewhere you weren't planning.

I am in the same boat, but had the TT and was pulling it with my 2019 F150. Upgraded to my 2020 F350 7.3, received it in Nov 2020. Now the kids have all grown older and don't want to camp, the campgrounds are all full, a good chunk of the campers now are ******s and decided to sell our trailer while we could still get good money for it. I contemplated selling my truck, but I like my creature comforts and a comparable F150 is going to coast damn near if not more than I paid for my almost paid off F350. I have decided to stop looking and just keep my truck.

**Built a 2023 F150 in the most comparable way I could, MSRP is $81k. The MSRP on my 2020 F350 was on $75k and I only paid $70k. I know prices on everything have gone up, bu can't see myself going backwards for more money.

Our 2019 has only 10k in the 3 years we’ve had it, and it’s not going anywhere!
