I am replacing the door panels on the interior of my 1975 highboy truck. I was just going to get black ones and paint them to match the originals as I can not find ones that match the factory color. How would you go about color matching the originals and then painting the new ones? Thanks
If you can't find the color you want in a quality vinyl paint somewhere you can go to your PPG or BASF paint distributor and they'll custom mix you some. it would be better and cheaper to get colored ones if you could though.
It’s a darkish green color. I have not seen any trucks with the same color. Would you have any ideas on who might sell a pre colored one that is green?
X2 on any thing green color and interior is hard or next to impossible to locate in a repop. But used and reusable is about you only option, unless you get new repop and paint them. SEM has a great reputation as far as interior plastic paint. https://www.semproducts.com/products...pholstery-trim
Going with a partial interior color change to black door panels might be the best route.
Repair from the back side with JB weld plastic epoxy, common 2 part epoxy. Or....you can easily fix it with Threebond Plastic Repair Kit. It's mostly used by motorcycle guys for repairing cracked fairings, but it works great on door panels. It has super glue and fiberglass cloth and makes the repaired area stronger than new.
The 2 notches are to let the door panel clear the 2 bolt heads on the L shaped metal bracket. The arm rest covers the notches. Get METAL finger cups from LMC. https://www.lmctruck.com/1973-79-for...handle-cup-set I made some sheet metal reinforcement pieces.
Ditch the metal mount pieces and get the plastic Xmas trees. GM are longer and have a bigger head.
X2 X2 on the SEM paint.
Little $$$$ pricey but great vinyl paint.
Mine were in bad shape actually had them in the discard pile UNTIL I could not find any in JY better than mine.
Used 500 paper, sanded it down a little, then wiped down with the oil, grease cleaner.
Next day painted with the SEM and looked good. Actually the discoloring by the handle is a reflection
Actually, that discolor by the handle is a reflection!!!!!
