Thank you agian for the clarification, and hoping they can assist. As I said I'm stumped as of now, and the dealership out here says that can schedule me to be seen two weeks from now.
Do you hear your column "click" when you press on the brake with the truck on? If you don't the plunger isn't moving and allowing the shifter to move. Sounds to me like your brake switch is bad or has a loose connection etc.. It's attached to your brake pedal at the top of the arm. It would explain your brake light issue too I believe.

Thats what I'm going to be looking at today. It was late and had winds blowing last night repeatedly slamming the door on my legs as I was trying to look up under there. For verification you can hear the audible "click" of the plunger when you put your foot on the brake correct?
Yes with the truck running when you press the brake pedal you should hear a faint "click"
No click, and replaced the brake switch with no change. It’s basically like it doesn’t know your foot is on the brake as far as being able to start or shift into gear.

There's a double fuse in the passenger side fuse box under the dash, 3 blade 10amp fuse (should be the same as other years not sure which position)
run into can't shift out of park and no start all the time in the mine, mud build up around the shift linkage on the tranny stops it from going into the park completely. To get going quickly you pop the boot off around the shifter and use the manual shift interlock to get it in neutral to start it. Then in a good location you clean the shift linkage
Hats off to you for getting mud in there all the time. Living life to the fullest.

I found a diagram, swapped a couple tens and no change unfortunately. Fuses "looked" good but swapped them anyways. I didnt meter them out, but we are currently in a wind storm and working on my own and trying to stop the door from killing me.
when you remote start the truck, it runs, but is set up that someone can't get in and steal it, and works normally again when I put my key in and turn it to start position.... thinking something going on with remote start module or your push button start. as others have said batteries cause strange issues, corrosion in connectors by rear bumper cause strange issues, possibly brake switch issues, didn't folks get strange issues from parking brake release slam messing with things? I would even look for water under the the plastic rocker foot sills sitting with the wiring run down there
just curious, if you have say A/C on high, and shut down and settings set to truck follow last settings for AIR/heat. does the A/C go to high when remote started?

I pulled the drivers side door sill, there is water in there. It has been raining pretty good here the last few days after I drove it last. Makes no sense to me what wire in the door sill over there would have anything to do with the plunger not disengaing on the gear selector? Any ideas anyone? If the weather holds today I'm going to take appart the bottom of the column and try and trace the wire for the plunger.

my point wasn't the plunger at all... moisture or corrosion is causing a gremlin that is not recognizing you are doing the proper movements to get out of remote start anti theft mode... like I said if I put my key in and turn it to start like I hadn't remote started it... truck becomes drivable...
when you remote start it, it has anti theft so some knucklehead doesn't see it running...find it locked.. smashes window gets in and drives off..he cN't without key and doing foot on brake and pushing push button... you did mention that the alarm was going to go off and you had to use keypad to unlock it to stop it from going off, right? I guess possible that it's not recognizing key fob properly...?? But weak batteries, moisture and corrosion cause weird things in these trucks... also with the ease of the fob push buttons, and I keep my keys in my pocket a lot... pretty sure phone and keys and stuff are pushing fob buttons a lot.. a go through fob batteries pretty regularly... and set off panic alarm when I bend down sometimes.
I would start with getting moisture out of rocker sills... and contact cleaner and dielectric grease on any unused plugs under truck or behind grille..change out for fresh fob batteries to rule that out... all cheap fix attempts... fresh batteries is a more expensive attempt... checking the plunger is a cheap fix attempt... replacing the remote start module is not cheap, but cheaper than dealer doing it... unless you have warranty... if you have warranty, let dealer tow it and get them to fix it.

I did say the alarm was set to go off, but stopped by entering the door unlock code on the key pad. Thats what initially triggered me to think it was some type of anti-theft lockout. If it ever stops raining here, dont have a shop to move the truck into as I live on base here, I need to try and get it dried out. Unfortunatley I've talked to the dealer and they cant even look at for two weeks, and it is under the extended warranty thank goodness.
