With disc brakes, it's normal for the level to drop slowly as the vehicle is driven. As the pads wear, the fluid that used to be in the reservoir stays in the calipers.

Squeaking on the pulley is a good reason to change it. When my last one started failing I would get a brake light on the dash. And no other symptoms. Then it completely failed and brake pedal was hard...but difficult to stop. I have a car quest installed in one of my vans, it's still working after 2-3 years.
