I live in the Smog hell of Phoenix. You Kali guys have it easy. ANYTHING after 1966 has to be smogged here. I have a 91 f250 with a 460 that came down from Washington with no smog junk on it and I'm trying to find any info I can on what this truck needs to pass smog. Parts , diagrams, etc. Anything would be helpful. Thanks in advance. The smog police said it needs an AIR system to start with. Just what does that entail? What does it LOOK like? I just bought a system for parts but not even sure it's the right stuff. Pictures would really help. Thanks
Some engines plumb into the exhaust manifolds, some into the heads. Your exhaust manifolds will have plugged holes or your heads will have a plug in the back of the head.
You should get a shop manual for that truck.
Was this a California emissions or Federal? If there is no emissions sticker, the DSO will give you a clue as to where it was first sold. Look on your certification sticker which has the VIN, GVWR, axle, trans etc info.
91 460 should have a dual thermactor system and a 3 way cat, Feedback EGR (EVP on top), Purge valve and carbon canister, PCV
Your underhood veci will tell you what smog equipment the truck originally had
Should be easy to find all that stuff at a wrecking yard
Cheaper to sell the truck and buy a local one with the emissions systems intact. The smog laws are to minimize how much crap is released into the air that people have to breathe. Oddly enough some people like to breathe clean air. If smog is your thing that are places with dirtier air where you could live.
Not!!! I coudn't replace this truck for 3 times what I payed for it. Well , maybe for that. Besides, it passed the sniffer without the smog junk , so
I am not harming your precious air.

Reason: additional info

Leave your leftist lies in "the club". No politically-driven propaganda allowed in tech forums.
The air pumps only pump air through the cat on startupto make it not smell like gas because of the increased fuel used at startup.
Literally same amount of fuel is burned and the exhaust passes a sniffer because it just pumps air through the tailpipe to dilute the exhaust. Same amount of fuel burned, same amount of exhaust created and engine burns dirty recycled exhaust air instead of fresh air.
You guys almost have it right
The air from the thermactor (air pump) is pumped to the cat to get it heated up quicker
During startup and open loop the APV (diverter valve) diverts to atmosphere and then switches to the cat as it warms up
More fuel is sent during warmup (open loop)
