I finally tracked down a strange noise to water running through my heater core. I unhooked the hoses and noise stopped, I'm not sure if it's the water rushing through it or if I'm getting trapped air or something. I flushed it when the hoses were unhooked and it looked very clean flushing it both directions. It's pretty annoying, has anyone had this happen? Any ideas? I'm thinking about putting a ball valve in the heater hose to slow the water down. Maybe that's not a good idea? Any input would be appreciated.
if i remember right ive seen plastic things that fit in the tube of the heater core. i think they were designed to solve your problem. its been a while but the one im thinking of came with my new heater core. i cant remember what vehicle it was on though. i do remember it was in the instructions for installing the new heater core. maybe ford sells them?
i remember looking at a car (ford, dont remember what model) that you could hear water gurgling through. i told the guy i wouldnt buy it cause i needed a sure thing. thats the only car ive ever heard that noise from. i would definitly check your fluid level first.
You may need to pull the core and put it upside down and flush it to remove any debris that may be at the bottom. Not sure what type of truck you have, but most core removals are pretty easy.
1990 F250, 351. I'll probably just live with it before I pull the core. I thought I flushed it pretty good with the garden hose, thing that really got me was it didn't make any noise after I cleaned it out, it started up again the next morning.
If that's all it takes then I will look into it. I think the only core I ever changed was in my 68 Firebird many years ago. I remember it being a real pain in the ---. Thanks for the info.
Regular cleaning and flushing of your water system is a MUST on any vehicle to get rid of rust and debris on your vehicle's water system.
I baught a kit at the auto store for 5 dollars, it hooks into the hose, and you pop the garden hoze on there and flush it all out after you have drained the antifreeze, then just hook the hose up till water continuesly comes out of the spiket you plug into the radiator, then start the engine up for about 5 mins and blam, that baby is sparklin. You can also buy wash out kits which you run it with the stuff and water for 3-8 hours of normal driveing and it will clean out all the residue, or rust ect. then drain, flush and fill with antifreeze.
