Lift question.
Anyway, my question is, for those whom have them, "How do y'all get in and out of them?" I mean, like, is there a trick to it. I've never seen a guy use a step and pull it up with a rope once in.
He went to look at the truck with his son, but he said he couldn't get up into it. I told him I had seen guys use little step ladders for dates on Prom nights. He laughed at me and I realized then that I was stumped. It was a serious question, he's at least 65 I'd say. I know how people used to have landings for getting in or out of the stagecoach, there are houses here still got them.
Just curious. His grandson wants him to co-sign for him. I told him to have a backup plan if he fell and busted his butt.
It's going to drive like crap and be top heavy , a pretty lame choice for a new driver in my opinion. one of my best friends was killed in his '77 K20 with a 6" lift on it the year after we graduated. because it drove like crap and handled worse , he rolled it on a corner and his skull was crushed.
I'd remove the kit if it was mine.
Cowboy hats and a Ford truck wedding...yeeha. There was NO dress code...obviously.
If the wife finds out I posted this pic....

A 6" lift is NOT stupid, that is just your opinion. And we all know what opinions are like......everyone has one.
My wife liked the pics. Tell her she is showing more grace there than some HS prom dates seen sliding down out of one at our local Cracker Barrel on Prom night. I have seen a few fellows get out and help the young lady down, even to setting a folding kitchen stool in place ... but some have been left to just slide out with no grace to show.
As to the kid's who's grandpa I know, I stayed neutral, but judging by his comments I don't see him cosigning a loan for it (or outright buying it for him as I suspect was the kid's idea). Kid's dad wouldn't ... or couldn't as he ain't long been out. Grandpa is a nice guy, is reasonably secure due to good decisions made along the way, pa maybe not so much. Grandpa and I were conversing on FB Messenger, I might send him a picture ... if it's OK? Something like "just a picture off the net"?
I almost forgot, I had seen / saved the hand hold pics, made myself a set using sections of old chrome saddlebag guards from a GL1500 Gold Wing MC and some flat 3/16" thick 1" wide steel strips, just haven't put them in yet. My wife was looking over my shoulder, she asked me where hers were.
The best man had to go back to Texas, so the wife lost her "step". Lol

They're expensive, but the electric, hide away steps are nice on a lifted truck. I want to get some, My knees don't like jumping too much anymore.
I once saw a huge lifted truck at a car show where a guy fabricated a pull out aluminum ladder under the bench seat that came out both sides and locked in when it was down, with a rope to pull it up. Only 1 side could use it at a time, but I thought it was a neat setup.

I once owned (and regret giving away long ago) a pickup on which I fabricated a 21" lift and put on 49" tires. My ex wife had me install a "stirrup" on the passenger side seat frame that she could pull out, step into, and then pull back in to close the door.
I was young, light, and strong enough (and rebuilt enough steering columns back then to know better) that I could hop right up WITHOUT using the wheel as a grab handle. Could I do it now at 45? Hell no! I'm way to fat and weak.

SMH! Back in the '70s, was a set of brothers from a farm outside town that would all pile up in a '55 Chevy. They decided they wanted the "Gasser look". Rear was raised a foot or so with carefully cut round logs over axle up to frame, springs were pulled way down, then they replaced what were shocks with white angle iron to limit drop I guess. Front axle and springs straight out from under a '40s Chevy pickup. Some kind of can mounted to fill the grille, was not a "Moon Eyes" tank, but they painted "Moon Eye's" on it. Was 5 of them in all, but one night I was walking past, they wanted me to get them some drinks 'cause they couldn't get out. Was 3 in the front, 2 in the back, and likely Sister Lulabell between the one's in back.
After being around the auto repair industry for years and in it as a hobby my whole life and seeing what people do to their vehicles, I've been convinced there should be a country wide, mandatory, yearly vehicle safety inspection. There's way too many people who either are ignorant of the fact, or just don't care, that their negligence puts everyone on the road around them at risk.
