Intermittent Blower Motor

This is for a 2001 F-350 with the V10.

The blower motor in the truck only wants to work some of the time. The connector to the motor provides power and has ground. During investigation I also came across a blower motor resistor connector that was cracked with bubbled plastic. The blower motor resistor and mating connector have been replaced.

I noticed that the blower motor will run when I push on the motor housing. Additionally, I removed the motor from the firewall to see if it would run out of the truck. With key on and fan switch set to MAX, blower motor would not start. But if I touched the fan wheel and gave it a little spin, the blower would run. If I pick up the running blower in my hand the speed will change depending on what orientation I hold the blower.

It's easy enough to buy a new blower motor but I wanted to see if anyone has run across something like this and if maybe the problem would be caused by something other than a failing motor.

You already found the problem by pushing on the motor housing. There is no other fix other than replacing the blower motor.

If it's not working on high, it's not the resistor. It's the blower motor.

Look real good at where the wire connects to the motor. Connection can get loose and/or burn over time.

The resistor was replaced because the connector was cracked and had evidence of high heat. I just wanted to know if something other than the blower motor would cause the intermittent problem.

I replaced the blower motor and all seems to be good now. As an additional note, I had a hard time removing the wheel from the motor shaft without damaging the wheel. So I just bought them as a set.
